8^TH STUDIO ALBUM IS FIRST ON THEIR OWN LABEL, SCRAWNY RECORDS

Buffalo Tom is excited to announce that it will be releasing its eighth studio album, Skins, on February 15, 2011. Produced by the band in their hometown of Boston, MA, and mixed by long-time friends Paul Q. Kolderie (who produced the band's breakout third album, 1992's Let Me Come Over) and Tom Polce, Skins is the follow up to 2007's acclaimed Three Easy Pieces, which brought Buffalo Tom back into the spotlight after a nine-year hiatus. Skins is the first release on the band's own Scrawny Records via a worldwide partnership with The Orchard, and features guest Tanya Donnelly of Belly, Breeders and Throwing Muses fame singing on the song "Don't Forget Me." Besides the standard CD, a deluxe edition will be available with demos and b-sides, as well as a vinyl version with a download card featuring the additional songs. The first song from the album, "Arise, Watch," debuted this week on Stereogum and can be found HERE.

Skins is everything you want from a Buffalo Tom album - its rock pummels and its ballads ache -- and reminds you why they hold such a strong place in so many people's hearts, including Jon Stewart, who had the band play on the final airing of his late-night syndicated talk show in the late 90s. Still comprised of the original trio of Bill Janovitz (guitars and vocals), Chris Colbourn (bass and vocals) and Tom Maginnis (drums), the song writing is as sharp and poignant today as it ever was. From the signature interplay of Janovitz and Colbourn's vocals to the scorching guitars and rolling thunderous drum arrangements, few other bands have been able to master depth and sensitivity at such volumes.

Writer/actor Mike O'Malley, whose star has recently risen higher as a result of his work on Glee, loves the band so much that he asked to write the bio for Skins. In it, he writes of the moment he discovered the band when they released 1994's Big Red Letter Day:

"Here were men my age making music about things that mattered - how we navigate our lives amidst the messes we get handed and the messes we've made -- and they were doing it with an authentic sound that had heft, texture and drive. They did what we want our rock and roll to do -- distill potent observations about life and disguise any sentimentality - eliminate it -- by backing up the observations with guitars and drums."

Support Human Rights Organization Using Video to Expose Human Rights Abuses

(November 11^th 2010 – New York) Music legend and human rights activist Peter Gabriel will host the 6^th Annual Focus for Change benefit dinner and concert for WITNESS, the international human rights organization, on Thursday December 2^nd at Roseland Ballroom in New York City.

The event includes performances by Grammy Award-winner Sheryl Crow and reggae legend Jimmy Cliff. Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, is a keynote speaker who will highlight the power of online spaces to inform people about on-the-ground abuses and mobilize them to take action.

The event will showcase WITNESS' innovative use of video and storytelling to end human rights violations. Co-founded in 1992 by Gabriel, WITNESS has trained and supported thousands of human rights defenders in more than 80 countries to use video in their campaigns for change. Video has been used by WITNESS partners to corroborate allegations of human rights violations; as evidence in courts; to promote grassroots education and mobilization; as a resource for news broadcasts; and as a deterrent to further abuse.

"Video testimony ensures that the suffering of thousands of people all over the world cannot be denied or forgotten. Those voices can be amplified and heard in the places of power and courts of justice," said Gabriel of the organization's impact.

This year WITNESS is honoring HBO for using the power of documentary film to educate, illuminate and inspire. It is also honoring WITNESS partner LICADHO for its work to end forced evictions in Cambodia. Dr. Pung Chhiv Kek, President of LICADHO, and the Venerable Luon Sovath, a human rights defender also known as the "multi-media monk" will represent the organization at the event.

WITNESS trained LICADHO staff how to use video in their online and on-the-ground campaigns to document forced evictions of citizens whose land has been seized for so-called 'development projects'. LICADHO is capturing the abuses Cambodians experience from the moment their homes are targeted for seizure, through demolition and aftermath. Affected communities may find themselves abandoned or relocated far away without homes, jobs, schools or hospitals.

LICADHO's campaign is part of WITNESS' global campaign to fight for the rights of people at risk of forced eviction, often without consultation or compensation, from their homes to make way for projects like dams, mines, sports and luxury apartment complexes, shopping centers, and commercial farming.

A native of Chicago, Tristen left the confines of the windy city after graduating from college. She set out for Nashville where she sought out a more granular, organic music scene. There she grafted influences from music and people she found in the city's grittier establishments.

She soon began recording with the help of friends, and based on the strength of a 5 song hand packaged EP sold at her many self booked tour dates and home town gigs, Tristen began to draw attention from local and national tastemakers. Paste named her a "Best of what's Next" and American Songwriter praised her music, noting that Tristen's "strength seems to reside in her ability to be musically versatile. Utilizing various orchestrations, Tristen weaves a glistening web of thoughtful and extremely mature melodies that tremble with undeniable power." From up-tempo jigs ("Red Leaves," "Caged Lion," "Eventually") to slower ballads ("Which One," "Circles," "Sometimes Things Must Fall"), the folksy bliss is the sound of a group playing as one." The Giving Tree Band have continued to gain notice for their environmentally conscious practices as well. Fountains Of Wayne Announce Fall Dates
Will Preview Songs From New Album

Fountains Of Wayne have announced a select run of dates in late September and early October on the east and west coasts. The shows will include songs from their nearly-completed new album, the long-awaited follow up to 2007's Traffic And Weather, due for release early next year.

Fountains Of Wayne were recently described as "power-pop geniuses" who write "funny, sad, beautifully realized songs with the succinct brilliance and pointed detail of great short stories" (AV Club). Formed in New York City in 1996, the band - songwriters Chris Collingwood and Adam Schlesinger, along with lead guitarist Jody Porter and drummer Brian Young - has had the same lineup since its inception. In 2003 FOW received two Grammy nominations including a somewhat belated "Best New Artist" nom, after the release of their third album, Welcome Interstate Managers. Their most recent release, Traffic And Weather, which Entertainment Weekly called "a simply wonderful CD of songs about love, lust and loneliness", contained the song "I-95", which Rolling Stone named one of the Top 100 Songs Of The Year.

DOCUMENTARY ON GONZÁLEZ SHOT OVER LAST THREE YEARS

Swedish musician José González is the subject of a new documentary called The Extraordinary Ordinary Life of José González, which is now starting to be shown at festivals throughout Europe. It is a beautiful, sly and radically intimate documentary about the life and mind of musician José González. The 74-minute film was directed by Mikel Cee Karisson and Fredrik Egerstrand and produced by Erik Hemmendorff for Plattform Produktion (Karisson has made videos for González as well as Fever Ray, among others). Using video diary, surveillance camera, concert footage, tour documentation and animation, directors Karlsson and Egerstrand have given form to something as elusive as the creative process of one of Sweden's finest - and most secretive - musicians.

In the film we follow González through scenes shot during work on his second album, In Our Nature. Through a diary, based on personal voice recordings, we follow his everyday reflections from thoughts on a photon's path from the sun to our eyes to Darwinism to the struggle to write songs. Exploring universal themes such as loneliness, boredom and isolation, The Extraordinary Ordinary Life of José González gives us insight into one person's attempt to manage and understand his own existence. It was shot over a three-year period on location in Sweden, Japan, Singapore, United States, South Africa, England, Chile and Argentina.

Director Karisson says: "There is something absurd, fascinating and beautiful in our attempts to find meaning in our existence. With The Extraordinary ordinary life of José González, we wanted to give form to the personal artistic process. How personal reflection and everyday fragments of life shapes our input and output."

One of the more enigmatic and thought-provoking musicians of the last decade, González is one of Sweden's most successful exports. He has sold almost one million records worldwide and has received accolades from the media in every country in which he has performed. On September 14, he will release Fields, the debut record from his band Junip. Formed in the late '90s by González along with drummer Elias Araya and organ and moog player Tobias Winterkorn, the early critical response to Junip has been glowing thus far. Pitchfork gave the Rope & Summit EP an 8.0 rating, saying that the music favors "simplicity and shade while retaining the uncluttered sonic arranging that so often serves as a trademark of González's...we won't have to wait long to hear more from Junip, and if it holds serve from Rope, the only disappointment will be that González could've been holding out on us for too long."

Junip will be touring in America beginning November 1, 2010.

Knitting Factory Records is very excited to announce the release of the third set of Fela reissues. This portion of the reissues series, entitled "Zombie" in celebration of Fela's most well known song, spans the years 1976 - 1980. Containing 11 albums, this period of Fela's storied career saw his Kalakuta Republic increasingly under siege from the Nigerian government, and the clear rise of his vitriol as it fermented into scathing musical diatribes. .

Tracks such as "Authority Stealing" and the international hit "Zombie" are great examples of Fela's unfiltered outpouring of raw anger towards the oppressive Nigerian government. Interestingly, the 1976 album Upside Down features the vocals of Sandra Isadore - the American woman who introduced Fela to the Black Power Movement. Music Of Many Colours is collaboration with American vibraphonist Roy Ayers.

Thirteen CDs and 23 albums have already been re-released this year through this landmark reissue series, and the reaction has been rapturous as Fela's music continues to find new audiences every day. A large part of this palpable momentum is a result of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, FELA!, which is continuing it's hit run at the Eugene O'Neill Theater, while looking to open in London's West End in the fall. It is directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Bill T. Jones and produced by Shawn 'Jay-Z" Carter and Will & Jada Pinkett Smith with music by the world-renowned Antibalas and other members of the NYC Afrobeat community, under the direction of Aaron Johnson.

HANSON is proud to announce the launch of the third leg of their North American Shout It Out Tour, which begins November 1, in support of their critically acclaimed fifth album, Shout It Out, released on their own independent 3CG Records, which debuted #2 on the Billboard independent charts. The final leg of the tour takes the band to the southeast and east coast, following the success of their summer tour across the south and midwest. Tickets go on sale starting Friday Aug 27^th(ww.Hanson.net/tour).

Coinciding with the tour, the multi-Grammy-nominated band has been enjoying a massive resurgence in response to the album's first single and video "Thinking 'Bout Somethin'", available at all major digital outlets. The single continues to move up the charts at radio, and the emotive retro dance infused music video quickly garnered over 2 million views online and has climbed into the top 10 on VH1's top 20 countdown. The video, featuring a guest performance by "Weird" Al Yankovic, is an exuberant homage to classic film The Blues Brothers, recreating the iconic scene where the band's soulful music incites hundreds of people to dance in the street. The excitement has spread to the band's fanbase, inspiring them to reenact the video's dance sequence in flashmobs, around the world.

On the Shout It Out Tour the band continues to live up to their reputation as a dynamic live act featuring music from the new album, as well as songs from across their 13 year catalogue and an ever changing list of covers, reflecting their classic R&B and Rock 'n' Roll roots each night. Following the band's recent sold out five night stand in New York featuring all five of their albums performed in their entirety, the New York Times noted, "HANSON has evolved into a nuanced and largely respected musical outfit".

Billboard said that Shout It Out represents some of the band's "most soulful work ever committed to record", while Salon hailed that the new single "may be their finest moment yet", Entertainment Weekly praised "Thinking 'Bout Somethin'" as "a delicious, catchy slice of pop- soul", and Idolator predicted, "don't be surprised if there's a Hanson revival in 2010"

The third leg will feature Jarrod Gorbel, formerly leader of rock band The Honorary Title, coinciding with the release of his debut solo album Devil's Made A New Friend. The first two legs of the tour have brought together a wide array of music fans, with direct support from Rooney and A Rocket To The Moon, as well as a local independent artist in each market who won the chance to open the show via contests in partnership with ourstage.com.

Throughout the tour the band is continuing their activism efforts, raising funds to fight extreme poverty and HIV/AIDS in Africa (TakeTheWalk.net) through hosting one-mile barefoot walks in each city with fans. In partnership with Livestream, the band has also integrated dynamic livestreaming content into every aspect of their activities, streaming everything from live acoustic performances, interviews and guest appearances by tour mates to their walk events. Shout It Out released on HANSON's own 3CG Records on June 8, was written and produced by HANSON, augmented with special guests: Funk Brothers bassist Bob Babbitt, who played on some of Motown's greatest hits, as well as horn arranger Jerry Hey, who worked with Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Earth, Wind and Fire and many more.

New York, NY: KORN will perform for the first time on Lopez Tonight on August 24. The show, hosted by comedian George Lopez, airs at 11 PM ET on TBS. The band will perform their brand new single, "Let the Guilt Go." This is the second single off Korn's latest album, Korn III - Remember Who You Are, which entered the charts at # 2 on July 20 and is in stores now.

Korn will be joined onstage for the performance by the latest addition to their touring band, guitarist Wes Geer (formerly of the So Cal band Hed Pe).

The band recently wrapped up the summer's most successful rock tour in the U.S. as the closing headline act for the third annual Rock Star Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. The 30 city tour of major U.S. markets averaged 15,000 attendees per show and was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise tough concert season.

Korn will head to Europe following their latest late night TV appearance to further enact global domination.

Fresh off his latest run of shows playing guitar for Them Crooked Vultures, and currently on a tour of Europe to include appearances at Reading and Leeds festivals, Alain Johannes is getting ready to release his solo debut, Spark (Rekords Rekords/ Ipecac Recordings), which has the new release date of October 5^th. With a resume that includes co-founding the band Elevenand collaborations with Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, Chris Cornell, Mark Lanegan, and Spinnerette (Brody Dalle's latest project) among numerous others, Alain Johannes has already established himself as a gifted and prolific musical talent. However, Sparkis where Johannes' strengths as a songwriter, vocalist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist are finally showcased all at once.

Queens of the Stone Age/Them Crooked Vultures frontman Joshua Homme, whose label Rekords Rekords will co-release Spark with Ipecac Recordings, says: "Alain's record is the total embodiment of what the label stands for—the war against endorsing mediocrity and the uncensored attempt to take a leap off the musical cliff. Spark is a stunning examination of figuring out what you do when someone's gone, and it's utterly breathtaking."

Spark opens with "Endless Eyes," a beautiful flurry of cigar box guitars churning out layers of highly rhythmic riffs. Johannes' soulful vocals soar on top, creating a mystical, eastern-flavored sound. The track is an ode to Natasha Shneider, Johannes' late wife and creative partner. After she passed away in 2008, Queens of the Stone Age organized an all-star benefit show in Los Angeles to celebrate Shneider's life. Johannes composed "Endless Eyes" specifically for the show, and the song ended up settling the wheels in motion for what would become Spark.

From beginning to end, the album showcases the remarkable technical precision and versatility that has made Johannes such an in-demand guitar player. Spark also reveals him to be far more than a rock guitarist, with elements of classical, flamenco, and Indian music displayed throughout. Tying it all together is his ability to craft melodies ripe with nuance, which is what truly makes each of the eight tracks captivating and emotionally resonant.

TESTAMENT vocalist and Native American activist Chuck Billy is pleased to announce his inclusion in the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian's new exhibition, "Up Where We Belong: Native Musicians in Popular Culture". The exhibition is located on the National Mall on the second-floor level of the Sealaska Gallery, and is open until January 2^nd, 2011.

Quoting the Smithsonian official press release, "Up Where We Belong" tells [Native artist's] stories and histories and provides visitors the opportunity to hear music and discover artists with whom these exceptional musicians collaborated. Visitors will also learn of the musical greats who inspired these artists, as well as the growing number of contemporary performers who follow in their path."

Chuck Billy is featured in the "Encore" segment of the exhibition, which features artists who represent the span of Native achievement in mainstream music over the past half century, according to the Smithsonian. Other musicians featured in this segment are saxophonist Jim Pepper, and singer Debora Iyall.

What commonly intrigues new and old fans alike is Vonnegutt's ability to cross musical boundaries and appeal to different audiences. For fans of Gym Class Heroes, B.o.B., Chester French, and Chiddy Bang, Vonnegutt make their own mark with classic emcee skills coupled with evolving lyrics, pop sensibility, and a dose of rock dynamics.

Let's be clear though, this has been has not been an easy path. Vonnegutt's two founding members have been paying their dues for years before crossing paths. Frontman/emcee Kyle Lucas has been earning a name for himself in the hip hop scene for years with the release of several mixtapes including his latest; It's Always Sunny In Marietta, which was presented by 2dopeboyz.com and hosted by Big Boi. Meanwhile, guitarist Neil Garrard was busy doing session work for some of the south's biggest names in Rap/R&B (Dungeon Family, Pastor Troy, and Kelly Rowland). 2008 saw the band solidify their lineup with the additions of Patrick Postlewait (bass) and Taylor White (drums).

2011 will see the release of the long awaited debut full length, Falling Up The Stairs. MySpace Music introduces Stars

Emerging artists gain exposure and find new fans through MySpace program

Since launching in 2003, MySpace has established itself as a hub for musicians and the fans who want to connect with them. It's a portal for new, unknown and unsigned bands to build a following they can leverage for greater success.

Since October 2009, MySpace's breaking artist music program "Introducing ..." has been selecting a handful of emerging musicians to champion by helping them reach new audiences.

MySpace was already a powerful, influential tool for raising the profile of up-and-coming artists, but once selected for the "Introducing ..." program, musicians receive a flood of new resources during an eight week promotional period (early case studies for the program lasted 12 weeks). For example, MySpace prominently places the artists on the site and also promotes them through a joint press release, single premieres, video premieres and daily status updates on the musicians' activity on MySpace and Twitter.

Artists are also exposed through behind-the-scenes "making of" videos, full-featured playlists, streaming album premieres, e-mail promotions and retail discounts. If musicians are on tour during the "Introducing ..." period, MySpace promotes that throughout the site.

Working in tandem with other promotional efforts by record companies, "Introducing ..." artists have seen significant increases in exposure as evidenced by a recent study by Big Champagne, a media tracking and technology company.

New Discoveries

Jason Derulo, one of the emerging artists featured between Dec. 12, 2009 and March 6, 2010, is widely described as having been "discovered" on MySpace. His songs, "In My Head" and "Whatcha Say," remain in the site's top 15 songs, with the first hitting number one video and the second hitting number one song. The Miami-born R&B singer is second on iTunes, and MySpace promotion directly drove 28,000 people to iTunes for his music.

His YouTube view count gradually increased from about 2.5 million before the program, peaking at more than 4 million. By the end of the cycle he had about 3.4 million views.
Other indicators show an upswing during that period, including his Twitter followers, YouTube views and iTunes sales.

His Twitter followers rose from less than 14,000 before the MySpace program to 47,444 as the promotion period came to a close.

His YouTube views went from 2.3 million the week before the program started to 3.5 million at the end of that cycle. Derulo's iTunes sales of his second single rose during his time in the "Introducing ..." program, from a rank of 288 in the U.S., to top ten rankings four weeks in a row during the promotional period.

While the "Introducing ..." promotion overlapped with additional label promotion and the single release cycle, MySpace significantly contributed to the momentum driving Derulo's career.

Self Promotion

Other artists have seen similar successes after being featured in the MySpace program. We The Kings, a pop-rock quartet from Florida, was named an MTV artist to watch in 2010. MySpace has exposed We The Kings to more than 885 million views since they created their band page.

We The Kings saw a tremendous and sustained increase in AOL Broadcast Streaming of MySpace Tracks; spiking from about 10,000 when the program started to nearly 110,000 by the program's end.

MySpace's "Introducing ..." program encourages artist participation and self evangelism, which is part of the momentum driving bands like We The Kings. The group is one example of the many who have used all platforms - MySpace, blogs, Twitter, and others - to maximize exposure.

Getting into Stores

One of the desired results of greater exposure through "Introducing ..." is new music becoming available in more places. Lights, a female solo synth-pop musician from Canada, was in the first round of program artists. Her label, Warner Brothers Records, attributes MySpace with getting her album into Target stores.

In the 12-week period she was promoted through "Introducing ...", the traffic to her MySpace page increased more than 400 percent. Her merchandise sales climbed 200 percent.

Lights' music video was played 550,000 times as a featured artist, and her single received a high of 312,000 plays in one day during that promotional period. Her iTunes EP debut landed at number eight for pop albums and at number 35 on the overall top 100.

Bringing Underground Stars Above Ground

The MySpace "Introducing ..." program extends major support behind artists who wouldn't otherwise have big exposure and gives fans an early peek at artists on their way to the top.

NeverShoutNever! is the alias for one-man acoustic indie pop artist Christofer Drew Ingle, who got his start posting garage band recordings on MySpace. His 2008 self-released first EP sold more than 30,000 copies. Before he even signed with a label, NeverShoutNever! became one of MySpace's top artists, averaging more than 100,000 plays a day.

Once he became an "Introducing ..." artist, NeverShoutNever! saw interest in his MySpace page increase. For example, song plays increased by 400,000, and daily friend requests increased by more than 400.

His Twitter followers rose from about 70,000 to more than 95,000 by the end of the promotional period, and his Napster subscription plays and downloads spiked considerably

MySpace is often the first place fans turn to learn more about music they love. The "Introducing ..." program is the latest extension of that. It leverages the breadth of the MySpace platform by presenting exclusive content premieres to connect emerging artists with the most engaged music audience on the web.
